Activity. Beach. Brothers.

Unexpected, But No Coincidence.

Marco, Diego, and I were not supposed to meet. Well, we didn’t plan to meet. It was around 9am on Miami Beach and I was having a magical morning. I was staying at my friend Whit’s apartment and left to venture Miami Beach with only my bathing suit, Stan Smiths, SLUG, and camera (BS Starter Pack). I walked listening to a mix of Anderson Paak and DJ Screw, passing by lizards, palm trees, and the past night’s rain puddles. I stopped to lay the SLUG on green leaves, shiny door knobs, and colorful apartment walls to take photos. It felt so natural in Miami, which makes sense because the idea was originated here (a story for another day).

I had made it to Miami Beach to a gradient sky. The day was as crisp as a fresh coca-cola. This was a day that made you realize how spectacular life is. As I walked by the shore, I saw these two guys in red bathing suits. The suits stuck out amongst the blue sky and water. They also seemed to look like brothers. I was intrigued.

I sat there for a second by the water and decided to go up to one of them. SLUG in hand, I introduced myself. One of the guys introduced himself as Marco. I handed him the SLUG and told him about the brand. He immediately understood and tried it on. While wearing it, we spoke about his story. He was in fact a twin, and him and his brother were visiting Miami from Toronto! So cool. They were here for the Copa America soccer tournament that was taking place in Miami. Today was their last day, and they were enjoying it at the beach. I asked him if him and his brother would be up for a quick photo shoot and he graciously agreed. Awesome. They wanted to get some coffee so I said we could meet up after.

At that moment I realized … I had no film left and needed a video camera. I called up my new friend Gabriel, the coolest man out in Europe and Africa, who was also staying with Whit this week. Within 30 minutes, he arrived at the beach with it all. Clutch.

Marco returned with his brother Diego, and we got right to it. We directed the boys to start off about 20 feet from the shore. 3,2,1 “Action!”. The SLUG stood dead center in the frame, one brother to the left, one brother to the right, splitting the SLUG. They swam a bit, got up, wiped their eyes, slowly. They looked at each other, waited a moment and …. BOOM ! They raced to the bag ! Just as they started to run, a beach goer walked in frame ... a special guest! Diego dodged the beach goer with ease, with his eyes on the SLUG. The beach goer turned his head intrigued about what this twin was chasing. They got closer to the SLUG. It was going to be a photo finish. Just as Diego reached for the bag, out of no where, Marco dove full body ! I couldn’t believe it. This was something out of a movie ! Who got it ? Who won ? …

We’ll never know.
